I've been...

Reading:
- when I started reading Lie Huo Jiao Chou the translation seemed to be updating at a reasonable pace of 1-2 chapters a month. Since I caught up, it hasn't updated since the end of November, and just as it was getting into some really juicy backstory bits.
- I started another ongoing translation, Married Thrice to Salted Fish, which is a transmigration story from the pov of the transmigrator's love interest. The transmigrator is an unapologetic villainfucker (or, he would like to be, but this is incredibly slow burn) and the pov character is his problematic fave. I LOVE the characters and the unfolding relationship but it doesn't have a plot that really grabs me, so I don't mind taking it slow and waiting for updates.
- My ebook hold for A Memory Called Empire came in and like a fool, I waited till there were only a few days left on the loan to start reading it (I'm not far enough into it to know if it's going to grab me in the "finish it in two days" way or not).
Admiring:
- this William Morris gift wrap paper pack from Pepin Press. They would be great for endpapers in the right book.
Working on:
- Renegade Bindery does "binderary" in February, which is kinda like inktober but in a different month--basically the idea is just, make as much as you can, and also people can give online talks or workshops if they want. I don't know if I'll be able to attend any scheduled events but there's going to be at least one marbling demo so I'm hoping I can make it. Anyway, I just finished a late gift for my dad, and the rest of this month I'm going to spend prepping for hopefully finishing a lot of books in February! I typeset They All Say I've Met a Ghost and I'm finishing up typesets for a few more fics, and I've spent Too Much on supplies and I'm going to start decorating some fabrics for covers.
- Some furniture rearranging at home: we got a bunk bed for 4yo and 2yo and moved them from 4yo's smallish room into me & husband's slightly bigger room. Husband and I are temporarily in the smallish room, we're going to move to the downstairs bedroom eventually but at this point 2yo still wakes up enough at night that I want to be on the same floor as him. I don't know how long 4yo and 2yo are going to want to share a room, but for now they love it.

Date: 2023-01-19 02:23 pm (UTC)Also, randomly, someone else mentioned Married Thrice to Salted Fish to me like. Yesterday. And was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED that I'd never heard of it, so I'm kinda lmao that it's now come up twice so close together. The other person highly recommended it, so I'll be curious what you think.

Date: 2023-01-19 07:30 pm (UTC)I think you'd like MTtSF! I'm about two thirds of the way through. It does hit pretty hard emotionally at times (terminal illness + temporary character death) and also the mc is legit not a good person (he's poisoned people more than once and the ml's response is basically "that's so hot") but if you're ok with those warnings it's really good!

Also, after I saw these posts, me and the other person who mentioned MTtSF to me got to talking, and the result is that we've now made a spreadsheet of all the danmei with fantranslations that we each know of (though we haven't yet added them all, some we've just noted the websites and added the specific titles we both are interested in). So. That's a thing now, lmao.

Date: 2023-01-19 07:24 pm (UTC)That paper is indeed quite lovely!
I got a paper delivery yesterday and OMG they’re so gorgeous! I got it through Etsy and I’m super in love with two lacquered Yuzen papers in black/red that make for such a great effect (here and here, and I especially love the second one because it’s got a 3D effect going XD) as well as an amazing marbled Lokta paper that looks good on the website but is totally stunning in RL! ♥
Love the book of letters for your father! It looks very distinguished, like a nice special edition you can buy at the store! I’ve thought about getting a hot foil pen, too, to try for some nice titles or some little design elements. I’ve tried ironing on the hot foil to some laser printed images and it worked semi-well. The part that connected looks really good. But I had bubbles in the foil that I couldn’t get rid of. I’m wondering how I can get it to connect completely, and what went wrong that it didn’t… I’ll have to check out some tutorials. Because I’ve thought about doing a cut out on the cover and would like to do an inlay with the hot-foiled images, I think it would look really good. First I have to solve that problem, though. XD
Good luck on your projects for Binderary! I hope the projects you want to do work out for you!
I’ve thought about doing a quick typeset of three shorter fics to put in the messed up covers I did last year. XD I hadn’t left enough space between the cardboard of the spine and the cover, so that didn’t work out well for the finished book. Unfortunately, I had already made three more covers with this mistake… I thought about trying some decorative stitch that I saw in a SeaLemon tutorial, which would work for a single signature. That way, I’d get some use out of these covers, after all, and can also try something new.
