Hi! I didn't realize you had a DW account until you posted on Tumblr about it :)
I find it pretty easy to meet new people here - every few months or half a year someone organizes a friending memes, maybe you could check out some old ones? Or I usually just check out the people who comment on my friends' posts.
(As for library books, "if I return it without reading it I'm a failure" is very familiar, but I usually return them anyway and then feel too embarrassed to check that book out ever again or read it. Also not ideal.)
